BioMy partner Richard and I have been together since October 1994, and we still love each other into little meatballs. We both went to school in Stockport, but didn't meet until we bumped into each other with gay Doctor Who fans in London. No, seriously. Big influence: I became a voracious reader as a kid in order to read Doctor Who books, and got involved in politics because Doctor Who gave me an instinct for freedom and a desire to change the world. We’re still wildly excited about the new series, and share our Isle of Dogs flat with thousands of books and DVDs (films spanning 90 years, The Avengers, Quatermass, I Claudius and many more).
I believe in freedom from poverty, ignorance and conformity, and am a thoroughly Liberal member of the Liberal Democrats. I was national Chair of the Lib Dem Youth and Students in '94-5 (my 15 minutes of fame, attacks in the Daily Mail and all) and due to ill health have recently taken a break after being on the party's Policy Committee for over ten years, including four as Vice-Chair; I stood for Parliament both in 1997 and in 2001. I like cooking, and probably eat too much, but enjoy it.
